What to Expect at BCC

Everyone is welcome at Bethany Congregational Church. We don’t tell you what to believe — instead, we create space for questions, conversations, and shared journeys of faith. Whether you’re young or old, just exploring or deeply rooted in your faith, you’ll find support and community here. We believe in growing together as we face life’s challenges and seek meaning and purpose. We also encourage our youth to give back. Each year, they choose a mission project to support and raise funds through activities like lemonade stands or bake sales. It’s a hands-on way for them to learn about helping others, even people they may never meet. We love seeing our young people grow in faith and compassion.

Our Worship Service

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by friendly faces and offered a bulletin with the Order of Worship. The building is fully handicap accessible, and seating is open — sit wherever you feel most comfortable. Worship at BCC is warm and relaxed, blending tradition with a casual atmosphere that’s easy to step into.

During the church year (mid-September through mid-June), our Chancel Choir adds beautiful music to the service. You’re invited to fill out a visitor card in the pews so we can say hello, and prayer request cards are available if you’d like someone lifted in prayer during the service.

A special moment in the service is when we pass the Peace. This is a time to greet others, share kind words, and connect — it’s often hard to stop chatting! Fortunately, Fellowship Hour after worship gives everyone more time to catch up and get to know each other.

Children stay for the beginning of worship, then leave for Sunday School after the Youth Message and rejoin families during Fellowship. Services usually end around 11:00 A.M., though they may go longer on Communion Sundays. Communion is open to all, with grape juice and gluten-free bread.

Sermons

Sermons or homilies are part of most services, lasting 7–12 minutes. You can find recent sermons as downloadable PDFs and view past services on our YouTube channel. Sermon topics usually follow the lectionary but may vary to reflect current events or community needs.
